Just a note to thank you again for counting me in on that wonderful, amazing and emotional Honor Flight. You and your assistants handled everything to perfection! It was an honor to have you go with us and show us the way to one of the most memorable days of my life!
Returning home from the conflicted Vietnam War was an often painful experience. The Honor Flight, touring memorials and monuments in Washington, D.C., and then coming home with "mail call" and cheering loved ones at the arrival gate provided opportunities to honor the fallen and fill my heart with joy for serving my country.
One of the best moments of my life, next to my wedding day. It was a trip of a lifetime.
My heartfelt thanks to you and all the team who made the Honor Flight possible for my father. He had a day like no other for him!!! You were so sweet and helpful to work with while arranging the travel. That day won't be forgotten by this family.
I want all of you day-to-day Honor Flight volunteers to know that all veterans appreciate the development of the Honor Flight idea and your hard work and dedication that has been required to keep the idea alive. Before learning about the Honor Flight and being selected for the flight, I was of the opinion that no one appreciated the young men and women who participated in the Korean War. I had similar thoughts about the Vietnam Veterans. You reversed my opinion and that means a lot to me. Many thanks and God bless all of you volunteers.
My mom was able to go on the Honor Flight just 30 days before she passed. I will always be grateful for this opportunity and experience for her. She was the only woman veteran on that flight and was treated like royalty.
I want to thank you and all the fine people who worked hard to make our Honor Flight such a wonderful experience. My brief acquaintance with several of the other veterans on the trip made this one long day seem like a short family reunion in many respects. It was a truly wonderful experience which I will always remember. Please pass along my sincere thanks to all the volunteers and guardians who made the trip possible.
I was overwhelmed with tears. It was a fabulous day.
I want to thank you and the rest of your staff and friends who made my trip to DC so great. I am so sure that you spent many hours taking care of the problems that could come. You and your staff did a great job! One of the things that surprised me was the fire truck that greeted us with water; the reception home was something we didn't expect. It was great! Everything was overwhelming. What a great day it has been. I'll not forget the World War II Memorial and the other places we visited and will always be in our memories for our lifetime. Thanks for everything.
This was very special because my dad was in the Korean war. He lost his best friend there. I cannot believe how emotional it was for me to be there.
To all the Honor Flight volunteers, the thousands of veterans that you have honored by flying them to see all of the nation's memorials that are dedicated to all American veterans , we say that you will never know how much we appreciate your work and efforts to show you care for all veterans.
My Honor Flight was beyond description. I did not know I had so many emotions.
Longtime horseman and World War II veteran Russ Witt’s 100th birthday in Belton. Russ participated in an Honor Flight in 2016 which he counted as one of the highlights of his life!
The experience was tremendous and overwhelming for me as I am sure it was for all of us on the flight. The "Welcome Home" experience was heartbreaking and exciting at the same time and made all of us feel like the most important Veteran of all time.
Of all the memories I have had of shared experiences with my dad, this day being one of my favorites! Thanks, Dad, for taking me as your sponsor!!
Honoring my dad who served in Germany during the Cold War with the Army Corp of Engineers. We had the great blessing back in 2016 to join an Honor Flight which was an amazing journey to visit Washington DC, touring all the major memorials in one day! What a memory to share a plane with so many heroes.
Let me just say that it was an honor to serve this great country. We did what we were called upon to do. The return to KCI was spectacular and I could have forgone the entire trip just for that. May God richly bless you and those in your organization for remembering the forgotten soldiers.
This is such a fantastic and important organization! I have a great amount of respect for our troops and have been feeling especially patriotic recently.
My father, Steve, recently passed away. Honor Flight was the last major thing he did and he was very grateful for the experience he had. He would talk about that trip every other day to his hospice nurses and with any new nurse or person he would whip out pictures and videos. Thank you for facilitating this wonderful experience.
Had the most AMAZING day with my personal HERO, retired GySgt Fred. Thanks Honor Flight Network of Kansas City!!!
Thank You and the wonderful volunteers for one of the greatest memories my grandson and I were able to share together. Your kindness and support from everyone was so appreciated. Aden couldn't hold back his tears at the different memorials. He can share this with the younger generation and let them know how people die for our freedom and the sacrifice that Aden will share with them.
Thank you for the amazing day yesterday. You all did a phenomenal job!!!! Thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough.
Thank you, Honor Flight Network of KC, on yet another successful mission! On behalf of American Airlines, it's ALWAYS a pleasure to see and serve you all and to Honor our veterans from the Kansas City area. We appreciate your business, but most of all, we are so privileged to be able to be a small part of honoring our men and women of yesteryear's wars!
It has been GREAT!! Honor Flight Network of Kansas City is the best!
Emotional night welcoming home the War Veterans of Honor Flight Network of Kansas City last night. So many of these men and women didn’t get the hero’s welcome they deserved when they came back from war. Honored to be able to finally give them the love and respect they deserve for their sacrifice. Especially honored for this man, a Korean War vet who spent his 21st birthday in a foxhole. Thanks for your service Jim, great grandfather to our kids. Proud to call you family.
I wish I could’ve taken my dad on this when he was alive but he had some medical issues and I was not sure if it would work out. He was in the Navy during World War II on the USS Ozark. He passed away seven years ago. I would love to accompany some veteran on this trip if they do not have someone to go with them. It would be an honor to go.
Our Program Director Jay had the opportunity to spend the day with his grandfather touring the national memorials in Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight Network of Kansas City group. We're so glad he's having the experience of a lifetime with his grandfather.
I would like to take this time to say a very big thanks to all the students, teachers, family members, sponsors, volunteers, and those folks that sent a card, letter or message to all the vets on the trip. I got the chance to sit down and go through each and every message that was in my packet. I was touched by the students that sent along a message of appreciation. It sure made this old vet feel humbled and proud to have served. The feelings today are so much different than those of 50 years ago. I know it's not much; but all I can say is 'Thank You All'.
Meet Joe. Bowler. Hard worker. Friend. American. Loyal. Alaskan. Fisherman. Funny. Dad. Veteran. Honor Flight Network of Kansas City flight recipient.
I want to thank everyone that helped to make October 5, 2017 one of the most memorable days of my life. My son, Dan, and I shared a fantastic day with the Honor Flight of KC on the trip of a lifetime. The entire day in DC was just magnificent. I felt like I in the company of some of greatest people, my fellow vets and escorts, for a special day. I will forever be thankful for every veteran that you give this opportunity to. I know they will treasure it as much as myself and my son did. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!
Welcome home Harry, hope you had a wonderful trip to Washington D.C. with Honor Flight Network of Kansas City. Special thanks to the Clay County, Missouri Sheriff Department, Kearney Missouri Police Department, and Kearney Fire And Rescue Protection District for the honorable escort!
Ted with daughter and grandson. Thanks so much for allowing him to go. Great opportunity.
This makes my heart happy! Thank you Honor Flight Network of Kansas City for this amazing opportunity to give back to those who gave so much! #Veterans
Welcome Home Papa James & All Veterans!
Rest in Peace Mr. Wright. Mr. Wright died this AM (2016). He went on his honor flight 2014. He was in WWII in the Navy and the Marines. His daughter Catherine went on the flight with him. He helped my city of Topeka through some hard times during the 1966 tornado. He was a good man and will be missed.
Our Kansas City Freddy’s donated lunch to 100 veterans and volunteers at the Flightless Honor Flight event last week on Veterans Day. The event honors our veteran heroes who are unable to travel with the opportunity to take a “virtual” flight to Washington D.C. to see the National WWII Memorial. We were honored to be a part of this great experience!
Today I had the privilege of being a guardian for a 95-year-old WWII and Korean War Marine veteran. Max served in the 2nd Battalion, 18th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. He was a rifleman in the first unit to land on Guadalcanal and take offensive action. He later became a flamethrower and demolitions man and was in action in the battles of Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian. Max received two purple hearts for his service. I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to talk Max and his fellow veterans and hear their stories. They are truly our living history.
The Honor Flight Network of Kansas City does a wonderful job of making these men feel special for a day. I've done both the Honor Flight to Washington DC and the Virtual Honor Flight here at Union Station. They are both memorable days for our veterans. If you have a veteran that would like to participate in one of these events, please make it happen for them. I can't encourage you enough to do this. There is no cost for the veteran and there currently is no waitlist for the WWII veterans. I promise you, it will be a day they won't forget.
To all of our veterans, I'd like to again say, "Thank you so very much for your service."
So proud to have my husband CTTC (ret) Arthur and son MA1 (Navy Reserves) (guardian) on this flight today. It is so special for both. USN vet. Arthur was on the flight about a year ago. Three generations of veterans.
What an amazing day. To spend this experience with my dad and all those veterans was such an honor. Everywhere we went today people young and old was stopping to shake his and the others hand and thank them for their service. Parents were telling kids to tell them as they walk up to say "Thank you for your service"…the parade of people at both airports, all the volunteers. A special thank you to everyone involved in the Honor Flight, without them this day would not have been possible. Days like this shows just what America truly is. Thank you all for a day we will never forget.
What a day, one that I will never forget! I'd do it all again.
Thank you to all that gave in honor of Pop. This trip we took together was one of the greatest experiences ever and some of the best memories of pop I will ever have as we were winding down our time with him. He beamed when he spoke of the parts he did remember and the fact we shared a sandwich at the WWII Memorial after meeting all the politicians. Of course, they were there just for him!... One week ago, we lost Pop. One week ago Heaven found him. I will forever miss that grin when I walked in. I miss you Pop. More than I can ever put into words.
For those that have yet to experience one of these, please take a look and see why we are so passionate about this organization.
Thanks so much to all of YOU who came out to welcome our Veterans home and show them the thanks and appreciation they deserve!!! And a special thanks to those involved in organizing and promoting these events.
Wanted to tell you again just how much my dad, Don Cousins and I enjoyed this trip of a lifetime in September '15. I'm sad to report Dad passed away yesterday, and those are memories we shared that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do to create these special adventures for our deserving veterans. I salute you all.
It was a year ago that my dad and I traveled to Washington DC with Honor Flight Network of Kansas City. Not only was that a day full of honor, gratitude and love, but it led to this family becoming volunteers. Thank you to all of you who volunteers your time to honor our veterans in a trip of a lifetime.
It is a day my dad and I will cherish forever. The entire day was amazing!
What an honor and privilege to accompany my dad and all of the veterans and Honor Flight staff/crew this past Wednesday to Washington DC!! My dad hasn't stopped talking about the events and surprises of the entire day, and it was truly a trip of a lifetime for us both. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making such priceless memories possible. You made these men feel like the heroes they are, and I am forever grateful!!
The “mail call” cought us all by surprise. I have read my cards and letters several times and they never stop bringing tears to my eyes. Some people I will never know and will never stop appreciating them. My family and friends wrote so many nice, appreciative and loving things about me that I am humbled to the core. I am not sure I deserve all of that.
I want to thank all those who made the flight and the day possible. I enjoyed it very much and met a bunch of wonderful people. I would like give a special thanks to Nancy of D.C. for her help and concern. She took great care of us. Once again, a very big thank you to all those who made the day possible.
Words cannot say the enjoyment I experienced on the Honor Flight. We were treated to a once in a lifetime experience that could in no way be duplicated without the support of the Honor Flight Network. Thank you and your wonderful staff and a super thanks to the sponsors that make it all possible.
Thank you so much Honor Flight Network of Kansas City for this wonderful, once in a lifetime opportunity for my father in law to make this trip. I'm so proud of him and his service, he was the only Merchant Marine on this trip! I'm so grateful that you posted pictures of the day so that we families could follow the adventures. Thank you for treating these esteemed veterans with dignity, honor and respect.
Thank you for allowing my Dad to go to Washington, DC today. I am so honored to have him as a Veteran and my Dad!
My husband is a lucky veteran.
I love meeting our veterans, shaking their hands, listening to their stories and thanking them for their service and sacrifice. Thank you to all volunteers that helped out. You're one in a million! — feeling thankful.
My husband Cleo and son-in-law Alan had a wonderful time on trip yesterday. What a special day for them. Thank You Honor Flight
I had a very rewarding and memorable day with everyone in DC with this Honor Flight. A great opportunity and experience; one that I will always remember. I will surely cherish each one of them.
Do you know a Veteran? I know I do. It makes me feel good to give back to such a great cause.
My Uncle Harry was on the honor flight last Veterans Day. It was an experience of a life time for him and his son.
Honoring my grandfather, Rollie. I went on Honor Flight with him in 2012. I'll never forget it, thank you.
Words cannot adequately describe the honor, patriotism, and pride that I felt as a guardian on the trip. Your team missed no details and provided a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of us. The love of the people in Washington DC toward our veterans was overwhelming, and the welcome we received at the airport when we returned about knocked me over. Thank you thank you thank you on behalf of the veterans, guardians, and all Americans who are served by them. This is one top notch agency. Kansas City is blessed.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! It has been an honor to serve those who have given so much to our beautiful country! I am so humbled, thank you All so much, Namaste~
From the family of Herbert Miller: THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts, for the experience of a lifetime you gave him on Honor Flight.
Thank you for taking my honorary grandfather, Ray Jones, on the Honor Flight last week. It was an honor to be in the presence of so many heroes at the homecoming.
God bless and God speed. Thank you. Grateful for each person being honored, and for all of the support staff behind these wonderful flights.
I had a wonderful time serving as a Ground Guardian on your trip!
Having complete yesterday's 9-11 Honor Flight from Kansas City to DC with my father seems inadequate to say just thank you. Both my father and I were overwhelmed at time by how special this day was for a group of WWII-Korean veterans that shared the common bond only they know and what it was like to live through the events of WWII and Korean. This day with these veterans and the people that greeted them everywhere we went humbled me in a way I cannot put into words, just having the opportunity to honor my father and the other veterans and listen to their conversations will be something I will never forget. Thank you
OH MY GOSH! After 6 years of being on a waiting list, I have been chosen to be a guardian for the Honor Flight Network of Kansas City :) I get to spend the day with
WW2 veterans as we tour Washington DC's war memorials on September 11th.
Honor Flight Network of Kansas City Is A Big Group Of Angels...I Speak From Experience!
I just want to thank all the veterans from the KC Hub for sharing your smiles and stories with us.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to spend the day honoring these amazing HEROES with Honor Flights- a fantastic and memorable day
It was our pleasure to have spent some time with you all yesterday.
Thank you for getting these people to Washington DC! What a wonderful gift for the veterans!
I want to thank you all for arranging for my father, Bob, (and me as guardian) to go on the Honor Flight. It meant SO much to my father. He talked about it all the time afterwards. He passed away so the fact that we were able to get him on the flight when we did was wonderful.
It was my honor to accompany 2 veterans to Washington D.C. on an Honor Flight Day.
This experience changed so my life in so many ways, but the most rewarding was to watch our Veterans salute at the Changing of the Guards at the National Cemetery. Those in wheel chairs stood up and saluted the flag. It truly brought tears to my eyes to see our dedicated veterans hold so much respect and dignity for our United States of America.
I wish everyone would take the opportunity to chaperone a veteran on a trip.
My son and I were so blessed to be "guardians" for the KC Honor Flight on Nov. 7th. My son, Andrew, was lovingly nicknamed, "The Donut Guardian" and "Donut King." (I have detoxed him from ALL donuts since then.) Thank you, KC Vets, for sharing your stories and your donuts! We enjoyed our day with all of you. Blessings from Maryland!
Thank you, Kansas City Honor Flight, for letting the Eisenhower Memorial Commission join you on your Honor Flight. It was an honor and a pleasure spending the day with you.
I went in June 2016. It was one of the most memorable days in my life. I was amazed at what we saw. Looking at all the memorials kept a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye seems like all day. My daughter was my guardian and she took dozens of pictures and I actually felt ashamed to smile in the pictures at the memorials. I will never forget that day.
Janet, wife of Art, a WWII honored vet was so thrilled with the trip and what it did for her husband that she makes a blanket or pillow for every flight that is presented to the oldest veteran.
I was my dad’s guardian on the October flight in 2018. He still talks about that day with a twinkle in his eyes. He said his favorite part was on the flight back, reading the letters that everyone from home sent. He still gets “wet eyes” when we talk about that. He has all the letters from that day and re-reads them often. I made him a picture book of all the pictures I took that day and he loves to show it to new friends he meets at his retirement apartments. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a special day for my amazing dad.
